Successful 2024 Fundraiser Provides Seed Money for Mainstay’s New Scholarship Program

Local Media Personalities Help Drive Event Past its Fundraising Goal

NEWTON, Mass. – April 27, 2024 – Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care held an extremely successful fundraising reception on April 24 at the law firm of Goodwin and Procter LLP on April 24. The reception was emceed by WROR personality Lauren Beckham Falcone and featured a stirring speech by her mother, Boston Globe columnist Beverly Beckham.

Mainstay is a Newton-based non-profit organization that provides affordable and supportive housing for adults with intellectual and other disabilities across the Commonwealth. Falcone is the mother of a daughter with Down Syndrome, about whom Beckham has written numerous columns.

“We are grateful to Lauren and Beverly for helping make this event a rousing success,” said Mainstay President Larry Oaks. “We are also grateful to the many donors who are supporting our mission and to the families of the people we serve for their loyalty.”

“Funds raised will support Mainstay’s new Supporting Success Scholarship program that will help families lower the cost of living in a Mainstay supported home. said Robert Manasse, Mainstay’s board chair. “Mainstay is committed to helping individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities live happy, independent lives.  The generosity of our supporters will help us towards that goal.”

As part of the event, Mainstay honored the Corporation for Independent Living

(CIL) and its President/CEO, Kent Schwendy. Based in Hartford, CIL partners with service providers to develop safe and accessible supportive housing.

Mainstay operates supportive homes for adults with intellectual disabilities in Newton, Norwood, Malden and Walpole.

“As a nonprofit real estate developer dedicated to fostering inclusive communities, we are deeply honored to be recognized for our contributions to the accessible housing landscape in our region,” Schwendy. “We are grateful to collaborate with organizations like Mainstay in this journey towards building a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
