Mainstay Supportive Housing & Home Care is excited to announce its new partnership with Pine Street Inn and Father Bill’s & MainSpring (FBMS) through a program with MassHealth. Mainstay will provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) to people who are housed through Pine Street Inn and FBMS. Mainstay will create plans for each individual based on their specific needs—assisting with meal preparation, dressing, grocery shopping and more.
“Helping people maintain their dignity and live on their own is a key principle for Mainstay,” said President and CEO Larry Oaks. “This program, which we began piloting earlier this year, enables individuals to remain in their homes and out of shelters, assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals and jails, which cost more and give people less independence than our program.”
Beyond finding temporary shelter for people who are unhoused, Pine Street Inn and FBMS provide apartments for hundreds of individuals struggling with employment, rent, mental health and healthcare. According to Pine Street Inn, 93% of people who get into supportive housing are still housed three years later.
“Many of our tenants enter housing after staying in shelters or sleeping outside for years, so establishing a daily routine and meeting their own basic needs can feel overwhelming, if not impossible,” said Father Bill’s & MainSpring COO Jon Lanham. “We’re grateful to partner with Mainstay, whose compassionate team steps in and helps our most vulnerable neighbors build more productive and stable lives.”
This year marks 50 years since Mainstay came into existence as a provider of affordable housing for people with mental illness, later expanding into supportive services. On Oct. 23, Mainstay will commemorate its half-century with a celebration at the law firm of Goodwin Procter. For the second year in a row, WROR personality Lauren Beckham Falcone will emcee the event.
